Who is building the memorial?
A group of friends based in the Uniting Church, but including many streams of belief and activism, drawn together by Steve Biddulph.
Beth Gibbings is the project officer, and Rev. Rod Horsfield the co-founder and elder of the project.
We have been working now for three years, helped by many generous specialists in landscape, archiving, community art, education and so on.
We especially appreciate the involvement of Dr Sue Anne Ware of the RMIT School of Landscape Architecture, who is an expert on memorial design and execution, and has helped in the planning and permission process over the last three years.
The design of the memorial arose from a national schools collaboration involving schools across the country. The outstanding design by a young Brisbane school student, Mitchell Donaldson of Hillbrook Anglican School was acclaimed for its power and beauty, and adapted for the lakeside site to its current concept. Elements from the designs of hundreds of other student artists were adapted into the final idea.
